Controller

Description:

Our client is one of British Columbia’s leading boutique law firms in the areas of construction, commercial, and matrimonial dispute resolution. The firm is looking for a Controller to join their team!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in strategic planning processes with respect to finance
  • Preparation of financial statements (historical and projections)
  • Preparation of monthly reports to partners
  • Development of action plans emanating from reports to partners
  • Designing and monitoring internal controls
  • Developing and maintaining performance measurements
  • Preparing annual budgets and forecasts
  • Cash flow reporting
  • Management of two accounting staff, including recruiting and training, performance and compensation reviews, etc.
  • Ensuring compliance with:
    • Law Society regulations
    • CRA regulations including preparation of all remittances and all other government-regulated requirements
  • calculation of payments to partners and associates
  • Management of accounts receivable – billing/collection and accounts payable
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts/loans
  • All month-end and year-end processes
  • Processing all payroll functions using Ceridian

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) required
  • 5-7+ years of accounting experience in a law firm setting
  • Strong knowledge of LSBC Trust Accounting rules
  • Strong technical skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in PCLaw and/or Soluno or other law firm accounting systems an asset
  • Strategic thinking with a high level of numeric reasoning
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong multi-tasking and attention to detail skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage staff
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality
