*Hybrid LAA/Paralegal - Collections

Our Vancouver law firm client is looking for a Collections Hybrid LAA/Paralegal. The successful candidate will need to do everything - from opening a file to all regular assistant role with administration to billing to closing. The ability to and willingness to do all things is imperative to understanding the practice.

 Responsibilities:

Managing the collection practice

· Intake with clients, document preparation, case management, personnel training and management, billing, calculating limitation periods, reading statement of accounts, preparing ledger breakdowns, general administration, and improvements to the practice.

Client interaction

· Direct communications regarding all aspects of the collections practice with clients, potential clients, other property managers, lenders including banks, credit unions, and private lenders; other lawyers including lender lawyers, lawyers represented by owners or other parties; government bodies such as holders of Crown liens, Builder’s liens, etc.;

· Attend meetings with clients in person or via zoom.

· Maintain good relationships with clients and consistently receive new files and pleasant feedback;

· Conscious of the firm’s success and often perform courtesy tasks for clients to maintain good relationships and to obtain more business.

Document preparation

· Prepare and forward draft documents and various other work to lawyers with often minimal feedback or revisions;

· Often perform work that junior lawyers would do such as preparing various demand letters and court documents.

· Preparing petitions, supporting affidavits, exhibits and certificate of pending litigations.

Case management

· Manage the collection practice by prioritizing the workload according to limitation periods, unique situations; large strata arrears/levies owing; preferred clients, etc.;

· Answer and make telephone calls from/to lenders on Eastern Standard Time or owners overseas in various time zones;

· Oversee all billing for the collection practice;

· Prepare payout statements – an important task because if all fees and/or anticipated costs are not properly calculated, there could be write-offs.

Personnel Management

· Manage and train other personnel who bill their time for the firm;

· Perform work that other lawyers cannot or do not do which leaves them time to bill more time for the firm in other areas;

· Continuously work more than the required hours to manage workload and deliver client satisfaction; endure high-stress levels with the nature of the role.

 

Qualifications:

 ·Know court rules and litigation procedures to continue with forced sale procedures. 

 ·Knowledge for land title office filings, BC online, Excel etc.


Salary:
·65-75k dependent on experience
