Law Firm Accountant/Bookkeeper New

Our law firm client is looking for an experienced law firm Accountant/Bookkeeper to join their team.

Successful candidate will have previous law firm experience and have trust accounting knowledge. PCLaw, Sage50, Clio and Quickbooks experience would be an asset.

Duties include:

   Accounting/Bookkeeping Tasks:

  • Day to day recording of all trust and general account transactions
  • Making deposits and printing trust and general cheques

  • Accepting e-transfers for trust and general
  • Preparing credit card invoices to clients
  • Reconciling and balancing monthly trust and general bank accounts
  • Preparing and posting of the Statements of Account (fee billings)
  • Maintaining trust ledger, accounts receivable sub ledger and accounts payable accounts
  • Preparing payroll semi monthly
  • Preparing spreadsheet of cash expenses
  • Preparing necessary government remittances such as GST, PST, WCB and payroll deduction remittances
  • Preparing periodic financial statements
  • Preparing Law Society Trust Reports and providing support during Trust Audits.
  • Send memo to each lawyer requesting input for the Trust Report,
  • Remind lawyers to complete the annual practice declaration online.
  • Organizing, maintaining accurate records for the required retention periods
  • Liaising with Accountant for year end reporting
  • Closing files
  • Other duties as assigned
   Supervising Staff regarding the following:
  • Accounting procedures
  • General office procedures and protocol
  • Helping staff with day to day issues. Problem solving
   Researching and Purchasing:
  • Office furnitures (chairs, filing cabinets etc.), Computers, Software, Photocopiers

   Library Filing:

  • Filing updates, maintaining subscriptions. (BC Practice etc.)
   Insurance:
  • Submit PBC extended health claims for a couple of lawyers, submit claims to PHSP
  • Liaising with insurance broker regarding excess liability insurance. Submitting renewal applications.

  • Liaising with comprehensive insurance broker regarding office insurance making requests for Certificate of Insurance for leased equipment and leased premises.
  • Liaising with group insurance broker regarding extended health and dental plan

   Maintenance & Repair:

  • Liaising with IT regarding PCs, software, IT network, printers, and photocopier issues.
  • Maintaining users on photocopier software 
   Event Organization:
  • Christmas Parties
   Misc.:
  • Liaising and coordinating with Landlord
  • Petty Cash
  • Office organization
