Legal Administrative Assistant/Paralegal Hybrid - Wills and Estates (Surrey location)

They are looking for an intermediate to senior Legal Assistant/Paralegal Hybrid to join their Wills and Estates team in their new Surrey office.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Preparing and drafting various correspondence, agreements, various court documents and pleadings
  • Setting court dates, mediations, discoveries, trials and communicating with court registries and opposing counsel
  • Arranging court filings and applications
  • Tracking court and limitation dates
  • Assisting with the preparation of court applications, trial briefs, application records, trial exhibits
  • Maintaining lawyer calendars, scheduling client appointments, email management, maintaining a bring forward (“BF”) system­­
  • Draft estate planning documents (i.e. PA, Rep K, and all supporting documents, Trust documents, reporting letters, etc)
  • File management (opening and closing)
  • Monthly billing
  • Dicta-typing
  • Time entry where applicable
  • Regular interaction with clients
  • General administrative duties as required

Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years experience working in a busy law firm
  • Experience drafting wills, Powers of Attorney, and Healthcare Representation agreements
  • Experience using BC Online and LTSA
  • Good understanding of WESA
  • Ability to assist clients with the administration of an estate
  • Experience in dealing with various government and financial institutions
  • Experience drafting required court documents to obtain estate grants
  • Knowledge of procedures after estate grant issued
  • Familiarity with Trust Agreements and Committeeship applications
  • Time tracking and billing using Esilaw is an asset
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with MS Word, FileSite, etc.
  • Extremely reliable and able to work both independently and as a team member
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic, be proactive in nature and show keen initiative.
